The BMW M2 Competition is one if not the worst kept secret in the motoring industry as numerous reports have surfaced with the latest being last week. Leaked online via an early publication, this time around, an advanced copy of a popular auto magazine has done the needful along with specifications and pictures.
What makes the BMW M2 Competition so unique?
While changes aren’t radical, the new M2 receives a slightly revised black kidney front grille and larger air intakes. It also receives wing mirrors borrowed from the M4, custom black wheels, new diffuser and unique tailpipes. Inside, M4 seats are visible along with a red push-start engine button and a multifunction steering wheel with familiar “drive” settings.
BMW’s newest M model is fitted with the new S55 engine which also happens to drive the M3 and M4. That means owners can look forward to a twin-turbo 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine pushing out 404 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque, an increase of 39 horses of the stock M2.
With that said, the BMW M2 Competition will be able to zip from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and is equipped with a six-speed manual as standard. Of course, there is a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox available and reduces the 0-100 time to 4.2 seconds.
No matter what gearbox is fitted, its speed is electronically-capped at 250 km/h.
The model is expected to make its global debut later this month at the Beijing Motor show. Pricing for the UK have been confirmed for the BMW M2 Competition and will go on sale this July. Prices and GCC availability is not yet known.
