After teasing the all-new 2019 Sierra last week, GMC has officially revealed the luxury pickup at a special event in the US.
Following in the footsteps of the all-new 2019 Chevrolet Silverado, the new Sierra sports a distinct exterior, new materials and features.
What’s new for the 2019 Sierra?
The front end benefits from a large front grille flanked with new C-shaped LED daytime running lights with vertical fog lights resting below and surrounded by chrome trim on SLT and Denali trim levels.
For 2019, the GMC Sierra sticks with the squared fenders and familiar styling cues. However, the styling has been tweaked ever so slightly to keep up the current trend, and the American brand has an assortment of rims choose from.
Moving onto the rear, exclusive to the 2019 Sierra is the MulitPro Tailgate and its standard across the board. GMC says this particular tailgate has “six unique functions and positions”. Obviously, this selection includes the traditional fold flat to make loading and unloading easier and a new “separate” unit that can be folded down which can hold up to 170 kilos.
While its bold and muscular appearance and new dual tailgate may strike up a conversation, the bed can now be fitted with carbon fibre on 2019 Sierra Denali models and is said to be the “best-in-class dent, scratch and corrosion resistance.”
Technology-wise, the enhanced GM truck receives a new IntelliLink infotainment system and a colour heads-up display. It can also be had with a rear camera mirror similar to that of the one found in Nissan’s latest SUV’s. This system works in conjunction with the high-resolution camera to project a larger field of view when reversing.
GMC has also added a new ProGrade Trailering System which conveniently comes with its own application available on Android and iOS compatible devices. From the app, users can check the trailers tyre pressure and temperature along with providing reminders about maintenance and a pre-departure checklist. Users can also use it to test the trailers lights and other electrical components.
As we previously covered, the 2019 Sierra will be offered with three engines. Two petrol ones with 5.3- and 6.2-litre displacements and an all-new 3.0-litre turbodiesel engine mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox. The petrol motors are fitted with a dynamic fuel management system which enables the larger-than-life pickup to run on a minimum one cylinder.
The 2019 Sierra will go on sale later this year.
