No matter which way you look at it, hybridization is a thing, and it’s slowly working across all sorts of vehicles, and yes this includes sports cars. While many have said they are looking at the potential, Lamborghini has officially confirmed the Huracan successor will feature a hybrid drivetrain.
It remains a mystery as what engine will be aided by electrification although we find it hard not to believe a slightly tuned version of the current 5.2-litre V10 sitting alongside an electric motor and battery unit.
The Lamborghini Huracan successor is slated to arrive sometime 2022 so sit tight. As for the Aventador successor, the raging bull plans to keep the naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 driving each corner.
With the launch window still a few years away, this gives Lamborghini plenty of time to create a light yet powerful unit that will not only add an extra kick but allow the sports car to traverse a small distance on electricity alone.
Huracan successor won’t be the only hybrid Lambo
Lamborghini’s second take on the SUV will also benefit from a hybrid powertrain. Debuting much earlier than the Huracan, the hybrid power unit will aid a 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine powering each corner.
Lamborghini Urus models are expected to launch sometime 2018 with hybrid versions following shortly afterwards. Unfortunately, the raging bull did have a hybrid vehicle in the pipeline which was ultimately scrapped in favour for the Urus.
