The return of the 8-Series BMW has created quite a stir over the past couple of months. Receiving tons of praise from around the world, BMW has finally confirmed the series will go into production in 2018.
Shown off at multiple car shows across the globe, BMW has confirmed hardtop models will be the first to be built with 8-Series convertible vehicles joining the lineup in 2019.
8-Series BMW has yet to make their production debut as all models we’ve seen over the past few months are purely concept vehicles. Sources indicate we’ll catch a glimpse of a road-ready car in March at the Geneva Motor Show.
The return of the 8-Series BMW
Upon launch, shortly after production starts, 8-Series BMW will directly target Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Cabriolet models as BMW hasn’t built any competition for these two vehicles for years.
Similar to that of the four-door 7-Series lineup, BMW will offer a broad range of engine options and trim levels. The list should include a 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder, and the mighty V12 6.6-litre turbocharged engine prominently found powering the M760Li.
There is one motor we can guarantee is on the way, the 600 horsepower 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 borrowed from the new M5 will find another home powering the M8.
Before all of this though, you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of the 8-Series on various racetracks around the world, starting with Daytona, Florida in late January.
