Mercedes have finally confirmed that their long-awaited Mercedes-AMG sedan will be uncloaked early next year at the Detroit Motor Show.
Set to challenge the Porsche Panamera more information about the project has surfaced too. The underpinnings are identical to the E63 AMG and it won’t be the only model in the family.
Not only will a 63 engine lurk underneath the bonnet, further down the line, more units will be made available as well as a hybrid version.
What will they call the Mercedes-AMG sedan?
Previously, the four-door sports car was rumoured to hold the GT4 moniker. However, that won’t be the case come next years Detroit Motor Show. Mercedes have yet to attach a name to the vehicle leaving it without a name for the next few months.
There’s still one unanswered question though, how will the Mercedes-AMG sedan exist alongside the third generation CLS?
Sources indicate that Mercedes will not be offering AMG models for the CLS lineup apart from the CLS53 AMG.
CLS models will take a different approach to what we’re used with current and previous models. Instead of the four-seat setup, Mercedes will add an additional seat to accommodate a maximum of five occupants and focus more on the luxurious side of things.
Mercedes-AMG sedan vehicles, on the other hand, will be four-seaters and will focus more on performance and will cost a little extra.
Just three more months to go!
