11 years ago, the Chevrolet Blazer nameplate was retired in favour for Trailblazer, Equinox, Traverse and Tahoe name depending on what country you live in. As it appears, GM is putting the nameplate back into production starting next year.
Chevy officials are keeping a tight lip on next year’s model; however, documents have surfaced claiming the Chevrolet Blazer will utilise an identical platform to current GMC Acadia models.
Sharing identical underpinnings, similar engines should be available. This would include the entry-level 2.5-litre four cylinder petrol engine rated at 193 horsepower. For an additional kick, a 3.5-litre V6 offers 310 horsepower.
Next year’s Blazer engines should be mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox driving a single axle or all-four wheels.
Documents did reveal the potential of a third-row model. Although it may be a tight squeeze for adults, children would have ample room to move around.
The additional row would give Blazer models a one up compared to rivals most notably Ford’s Edge and Nissan’s Murano as both do not offer a thrid-row bench. Honda is also said to be working on a crossover that will develop into another rival to the Blazer.
Chevrolet Blazer SUV’s will go on sale later next year as a 2019 model. As of writing, no price tag has been announced.
