Fresh off of Mercedes’s first entry into the pickup segment, immediately, rumours surfaced whether or not a V8 X-Class would be part of the lineup at some point.
Those who may have got their hopes up “building” their X-Class with Mercedes’s punchy 4-litre twin-turbo V8 will have to leave it as a dream, as the German Manufacturer has no plans to launch a V8 X-Class.
As of last weeks announcement, those looking for the most powerful version of the X-Class will have to settle for the X250 powered by a bi-turbo diesel engine rated at 187 horsepower. Although further down the production line, Mercedes will introduce a V6 motor rated at 254 hp and 550 Nm of torque.
Just because Mercedes has ruled out a V8 X-Class doesn’t mean an AMG version won’t join the lineup in the near future. Borrowing the 43 AMG moniker, we could see a V6 3-litre bi-turbo petrol engine join the ranks too.
Additionally, Mercedes hasn’t excluded the possibility of an AMG styling package. This optional extra would add aggressive exterior styling cues, larger rims and a few modifications to the interior.
I would say this gets us hot and bothered. However, our frustration with the X-Class still lays with Mercedes having announced the pickup truck for select markets with the UAE nowhere on the list.
If the X-Class is not marketed in the UAE importing one to the country shouldn’t be a problem.
