Recently, a handful of automotive journalists were lucky enough to test drive the 2018 Continental GT. While our invite got lost in the mail, we’ve learnt some new information about the updated model including its power output, weight and speed.
While Bentley has kept actual weight figures under wraps, we discovered that the 2018 Continental GT will ride on Porsche’s MSB platform instead of an Audi-sourced platform. Experts have the luxury coupe weighing in 136 to 181 kilos lighter than the previous model thanks to the use of aluminium and reconfigured weight distribution.
Bentley has confirmed a new eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that sends power to all four wheels with a variable clutch mated to a new twin-turbo W12 6-litre motor.
Said to be 18% more fuel efficient than the previous model, the new engine pumps out 592 horsepower and 717 Nm of torque. With the upgrades in tow, Bentley believes the 2018 Continental GT launches to 100 in less than four seconds before maxing out at 321 km/h.
Inside drivers will be treated to a refreshed interior including a digital dashboard, lower seating position, enhanced infotainment system and a new smartphone holder in the centre console.
The updated luxury coupe will also benefit from high-tech autonomous technology. It’s unclear what stage of autonomous driving this entails. We expect more information to be revealed before its public debut.
2018 Continental GT coupes are scheduled to debut later this year at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
