After months of speculation, Mercedes-AMG has finally penned down a launch date for the much-anticipated four-door GT model. While they haven’t given us an exact date, September 2018 is a month to remember.
We have more information regarding the four-door GT besides its launch date, some juicy tidbits that are sure to get you excited for the new model. No, it isn’t an uncloaked model, but it is news about its powertrain.
Mounted in the front will be the standard four-litre V8 BiTurbo motor tuned to output a mega 600 horsepower channelled to the rear wheels.
On top of that, Mercedes plans to launch a hybrid model that will utilise a hybrid powertrain inspired by their Formula 1 cars.
Powered by the same twin-turbo V8, this additional model will serve as the must have AMG four-door GT. With the added electric motors coupled to the petrol motor, Hybrid versions pump out a whopping 805 horsepower enabling the sedan to accelerate to 100 in less than three seconds.
Given the GT4 moniker, power is sent to all four wheels using the identical drivetrain that debuted with the mind blowing E63.
With numbers suggested, the range-topping four-door GT model surpasses its closest rival; the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. In comparison, Porsche’s finest pumps out 671 hp and launches to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds.
Don’t expect the radical four-door GT to be available alongside the base model as it’s scheduled to launch the following year in 2019.
