Plans for a hybrid F-150 were announced earlier this year but what about the potential of a fully electric F-150?
In a recent interview with Ford personal about the hybrid powertrain, questions arose of the potential of an electric F-150.
While it wasn’t confirmed or denied, the possibility of one launching in the near future could happen. The previously announced hybrid F-150 promises to offer increased payload capacity and towing capabilities, both of which the electric version would benefit from.
An electric F-150 would be a smart move as Tesla has announced their venture into the segment and a few weeks ago, startup company Workhorse revealed plans for an electric pickup too.
If the American brand does go through with an all-electric pickup, could we see the same powertrain dropped into the Raptor pickup?
Electric powertrains are known for throwing down heaps of torque right from the get-go. Just look at how insane the Telsa range is in a straight line. Pickup trucks would certainly benefit from the added power when hauling loads in the construction yard or desert.
With electrification slowly becoming the norm, we wouldn’t be surprised to see other major manufacturers to announce their intentions to launch an electric pickup including the likes of Toyota, Dodge and Chevrolet.
Hybrid F-150 models are destined to launch in 2020 with more information to be revealed on both projects to be announced between now and then.
