If you have lived in the UAE for some time, there is no doubt that you have seen Honda Accords of all ages, shapes and conditions. If you haven’t, just look out the window as this is a popular car not just in the UAE but across the globe. As with most favoured vehicles it’s time for a refresh which is exactly what Honda has done with the Accord.
Most notably the front end has been retouched with a reworked grille, notice the bar which the Honda badge is embedded in, an LED light strip and a bit of protrusion underneath the grille. Improvements to the chassis and fuel economy have been thrown in for good measures. An aluminium hood has replaced the heavier steel hood to reduce weight. Honda Accord Sedan’s get increased body strength, upgraded dampers and refined electric power steering module. The rear remains relatively the same with minor adjustments to the bumper and lights.
Inside Honda has opted to retain the dual screen setup, above the renewed infotainment screen is a larger 7.7-inch screen for enhanced navigation, audio and vehicle settings displays.
Two variations of the 2016 Accord are hitting showroom floors, a sedan and a coupe. Two engine sizes are available to choose from, one being an inline four cylinder 2.4-litre petrol engine rated at 185 or 189 horsepower and 245 Nm or 247 Nm of torque depending on the trim. The second option is a V6 3.5-litre running on petrol, producing 278 horsepower and 342 Nm of torque. Power is sent through a six-speed automatic or manual transmission. A hybrid model will join the ranks sometime after.
Many different trim levels are available to choose from with numerous options, trim levels start from LX, Sport, another Sport, EX-L, EX-L V6 and the highest being Touring. New options in 2016 models include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, remote engine start-up, rear folding seats, carbon-fibre-esque dashboard or wood-grain trim, new interior fabrics, LED fog lights, full LED headlights and much more. The list goes on! Note these are not standard features but rather optional extras.
Honda sensing features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and collision detection system comes standard on Touring trims and as an optional extra on all other lower tiers. Sport models receive a new rear mounted spoiler. All models have the option to upgrade to 19-inch alloys.
If you’re looking for a bit more out of the Accord, Honda is also offering a Honda Factory Performance kit, which adds a body kit, upgraded wheels and suspension all installed at the factory.
For fans of the wind in your hair and sun in your face, recent renderings of the Honda Accord Coupe with its roof cut off have surfaced. Take it with a pinch of salt though and don’t get too excited because these are unofficial.
