What does the Porsche Panamera and Mercedes-Benz AMG GT have in common? Well, not much really, both have V8 models and both are of German descent. Underwhelming right? That may change next year as Mercedes are looking at the potential of adding a second set of doors to the AMG GT.
There aren’t many vehicles in the market that can compete alongside the Panamera, however, Mercedes want to change all of that next year with their GT 4 concept which is set to debut next year and then release as a fully fledged sedan is 2019.
Sources indicate that powering the creation is to be the same 4-lite V8 Biturbo petrol motor found in the 2018 E 63 AMG which bangs out a whopping 600+ horsepower. This is said to be one of a handful of engines available as we predict the standard engine carries over. It’s not just the engine transitioning across, drift mode is to make the jump as well.
Mercedes are also throwing around the idea of some sort of electrical support for the motor with reports suggesting a small motor able to generate 20 horsepower.
Rear-wheel drive is standard and much like its new rival, all-wheel drive will be available on higher spec models. The sports car derived four door is to utilise a modified chassis of the C 63, E 63 and S 63 and is to use more aluminium and high-strength steel to reduce weight. IT will also have a unique wheelbase.
