The 2018 Mercedes-Benz CLS has been spotted out in the wild and is set to receive a range of new styling cues both inside and out for its third generation as it has gone unchanged since 2012.
While it is covered by pesky black and white swirls, there are significant changes visible. Around the back, rear taillights follow similar design cues to the C-Class coupes and due to them being exposed leads us to believe these will be stock. Additionally, Mercedes appear to have added bulky bits to the rear to cover up what’s to come.
It seems as if the CLS badge is to be retained for the vehicle’s third generation even though Mercedes is currently rebadging the majority of its fleet to include an E at the end of its letter name. Although, there have been persistent rumours that the 4-door coupe would bare a CLE badge.
Rear wheel drive is set to be standard with the brand’s iconic 4-Matic system being available in top trims and select models. The potent V6 3-litre petrol motor is set to return, and we expect the brand powerful 4-litre Biturbo V8 to find a home up front.
We sure do hope it’s the monstrous engine found in the 2018 Mercedes-Benz E 63! Mercedes have stated that the 2018 Mercedes-Benz CLS class shares its underpinnings with the E-Class which will not only give the executive a longer wheelbase but a wider one too.
