Yesterday, Toyota filed a patent for a potential successor to the outgoing FJ Cruiser. Today is another day, and it looks as if the Japanese brand has another extreme vehicle this time in the guise of a hot hatch.
Although, it’s not 100% confirmed It comes as no surprise to us. But for those unaware, Toyota is preparing a version of the Yaris to take on the World Rally Championship vehicles including the Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai i20, Citroen DS3, Mini John Cooper Works and Ford Fiesta.
Those listed above already have a street legal version that provides an extra kick apart from the Hyundai version but that’s currently in the works, it seems only fitting that the Toyota does the same with their version.
If these models are destined for showrooms, don’t expect them until at least 2018 when the new Yaris is set to launch. No doubt, if it were to hit showrooms, Toyota fans will rejoice and those hot hatches that are already in the market best be prepared.
What about the vehicles looks? It won’t be dressed in the same clothes as the rally version but you can expect a unique set of larger rims, rear spoiler and a body kit of sorts. Inside, expect a sports steering wheel amongst other features.
As for the engine, from what we’ve seen from the i20, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Yaris’s four cylinder motor receives an extra boost along with sporty exhaust system.
