Over the past year, rumours have floated around claiming Mercedes-Benz are returning to the hypercar realms with a masterpiece of their own. It turns out those speculations are true as soon as next year. The German company aims to have one ready in concept with an unusual engine.
Still in its design stages, Mercedes are said to be in the final stages of design and will soon start further developing and testing the vehicle for everyday use. Exterior construction is supposed to be made of carbon fibre and aluminium to keep overall weight between 1,000 and 1,300 kgs.

Now for the interesting part. Powering the machine is a Formula 1 derived 1.6-litre V6 turbocharged engine. Oddly enough it is the exact one used in the open wheel racing team of the same name. Originally, a turbocharged four-cylinder motor was attached to the project. Anywhere between 1,000 and 1,500 horsepower is estimated to power all four wheels. Reports claim that the petrol motor powers the rear wheels whereas two 160 hp motors power the front two.
Reports also peg the vehicle with a 2.0-litre engine for increased reliability and an additional turbocharger.
The car is set to debut next year to celebrate 50 years of AMG. An official price point hasn’t been spoken of. However, we expect it to cost over AED 10 million.
Mercedes’s new project will most likely target the Aston Martin Red Bull joint venture and their AM-RB 001.
