Hybrid power is a stranger no more. Car manufacturers are slowly rolling out models that partially use the technology or are rolling out models that exclusively use the source of energy while others are going in guns blazing and offering only electric power with no petrol alternative.
What we’ve learnt over the years, is that hybrid power is a good thing as it usually gives the vehicle extra juice to run 0-100 km/h just that much quicker. Vehicles such as the Porsche 918, Mclaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari indeed use the tech for that extra kick and to drive around if the owner doesn’t want to generate a lot of noise. So why don’t hypercars like the Bugatti Chiron use Hybrid tech?
Bugatti has stepped forward and said the only reason they would use the system would be to achieve higher performance numbers. The idea of implementing such a system is allegedly being thrown around and could make it into the vehicle.
Already powered by a massive W16 quad turbocharged petrol engine, 1,479 horsepower spews out of the rear tail pipes enabling an incredible 0-100 km/h run of just 2.5 seconds and a top speed well past the 350 km/h.
With the induction of hybrid power, think of the possibilities the Chiron could reach. We’re not saying from standstill; the vehicle would be able to hit 100 km/h in 2 seconds, but we suspect at least .3 seconds chopped off that time.
While this is merely an idea at the moment, we expect it to happen in a few years and of course holding a much higher price tag.
