Next-gen BMW M5 spotted on track

Summer is almost over but that doesn’t stop auto manufacturers from taking out their latest creations and putting them to the ultimate test, case in point the 2017 BMW M5 which has been caught munching on German asphalt.

No price has been announced, and the German brand is keeping a tight lip on its release date. But we can expect it to launch sometime in 2017.

Based on the upcoming 5-series generation dubbed as G30, new M5 models are said to be lighter, faster, powerful and even more luxurious than previous iterations of the beastly sedan all in thanks to revolutionary technology and mechanical marvels.

As the chassis and various body panels are to be constructed from lightweight materials such as carbon fibre, aluminium amongst other alloys, overall weight is said to drop by at least 100 kg and you know what that means. A quicker 0-100 km/h time.

Getting the vehicle from 0-100 in a faster time is the current twin-turbo V8 petrol engine with a displacement of 4.4 litres. While it will no doubt be fiddled with to improve fuel economy and boost power. But we can’t confirm exactly how much horsepower, top speed or it’s 0-100 time is.

As standard, power will be sent to the rear wheels, but customers wanting a little more traction and acceleration can choose to have power sent to all four wheels instead.

Inside, upcoming M5’s are to receive a host of new features inclusive of autonomous and gesture controls.
