Ever heard of the Mclaren 688 High Sport? Us neither and for good reason. Mclaren themselves have barely spoken about the vehicle it’s as if it never was to exist and was merely a pipe dream. That certainly isn’t true anymore as a snapshot of the unicorn has surfaced and it looks real enough to keep us salivating.
Based on the Mclaren 675LT, this hardcore variant of that hardcore model offers plenty of aerodynamic benefits across it’s exterior. Four carbon fibre fins are attached to the front end; extra cuts appear just above the wheels for increased airflow, carbon fibre roof with hood scoop and even if you turn your attention to the rear, there’s a fixed rear spoiler mimicking the P1‘s.
Powered by a V8 3.8-litre twin turbocharged petrol engine, Mclaren managed to raise the output to an impressive 678 horsepower. The British brand has also managed to shave 40 kg off its original weight.
Although this is the first time, we’ve got wind of it, renderings and a shot of the rear end completely undisguised popped up not too long ago.
Only 25 units of the 688 are said to be built by Mclaren’s Special Operations division who are also responsible for the Mclaren P1 limited run Carbon Series. Allegedly, each model has already been purchased by a supercar enthusiast.
What price tag each one will hold is unknown as is it’s launch date. However, some say that those lucky owners have started receiving their cars already.
