250 Horsepower 2017 Porsche 718 cayman is exclusive to China

On the wake of Porsche Cayman and Boxster models being renamed and part of a single series known as 718, the entry level sports car’s are heading to the Far East most notably China with lower outputs than other regions.

Both the 718 Boxster and Cayman are destined for the region, and both are to use an identical powertrain; 2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder for those who may have forgotten, but the difference is that here in the UAE these models will exert 300 plus horsepower whereas China models are rated at 250 horsepower.

With an output of lower than 300, that puts the vehicle level pegged with the Audi TT which over the years has been well received by the drivers of China as well as the smaller Mercedes-Benz models with smaller engines such as the C-Class and E-Class models.

With less power a lower price tag is expected, right? Well, that does seem to be the case as Cayman models are priced at around 88,340 USD (approx. AED 324,500) and Boxster models are 89,842 USD (approx. AED 330,000).

For the time being these models are exclusive to China, however, as always if there is enough demand for these vehicles, Porsche can prepare them for worldwide distribution which would give them a wider reach as it opens the wallets of many more customers due to it’s lower price tag.

2017 718 models are destined for UAE and GCC showrooms this September with unannounced price tags.
