The California Special first appeared in the Ford Mustang lineup back in 1968 as a limited-edition model for the muscle car. Fast-forwarding to 2023, Ford has introduced a new package named the California Special for the latest Ford Mustang. Here’s what the new California Special model has to offer.
California Special Exterior Highlights
The California Special package has cool Rave Blue details, like on the nostril intakes, and a new grille with black accents. The headlights have black borders, and there are special Mustang GT California graphics in blue and black on the sides.
Other Highlights Include:
- California Special package offers two 19.0-inch wheel choices.
- Standard Carbonized Gray wheels feature a GT/CS logo in Rave Blue.
- The optional Performance Pack wheel has a machined face with Rave Blue pockets.
- The front fender’s 5.0-litre engine badge and rear GT badge have Rave Blue outlines.
- Similar to the GT Performance Package, there’s a Performance Pack-specific badge.
- The GT/CS badge in the grille is also highlighted in Rave Blue.
California Special Interior Highlights
Blue accents continue on the inside of the California Special Mustang GT. It features perforated Navy Pier upholstery and Ebony Black leather covering the seats. Adding to its stylish look is dual-colour contrast stitching with Raptor Blue and Metal Gray threads, extending to the dashboard and doors. The same stitching option is also offered for the steering wheel and centre console. The Interior also features a California Special IP badge and GT/CS floor mats for bragging rights.
Joe Bellino, Mustang Brand Manager, said, “The original California Special package was geared toward California’s optimistic and carefree driving culture. We’re refocusing on those elements for the 2024 Mustang GT California Special, which brings a vibrant style that looks as at home on Colorado Boulevard as it does on the Pacific Coast Highway. Rave Blue is such a distinct and exciting colour, it really does make the California Special stand out not only from other Mustang models but from previous California Special models.”
California Special Engine & Transmission
The engine and transmission are unchanged from the GT Premium trim. The 5.0-litre V8 engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 10-speed automatic. The powertrain produces 480hp and 570Nm enough to propel the muscle car from 0 to 100km/h in 4.7 seconds and continues to hit a top speed of 240km/h.
California Special Pricing
The California Special package is exclusively available as an option on the Mustang GT Premium model. The coupe model, equipped with the special package, starts at USD 47,610 (approx AED 175,000), while the convertible is priced at USD 53,110 (approx AED 195,000). Opting for the optional 10-speed automatic transmission on either model incurs an additional cost of USD 1,595 (approx AED 5,900).
