Mercedes-Benz has updated its entry-level electric car — the EQA. The 2024 EQA receives several updates inside and out. The electric SUV becomes more efficient with changes made to the body and the electric powertrain has been optimised. However, the specs of the powertrain remain unchanged.
2024 EQA Exterior Changes
The overall silhouette of the EQA is slightly updated for the 2024 Model Year. The front fascia becomes more aerodynamic because of an optimised bumper. The biggest change comes in the form of a new illuminated grille with a piano black finish. It even gets a backlit Mercedes‑Benz pattern. This brings the EQA much closer to the larger EQ electric cars in the brand’s portfolio. Also, the new DRL now spans the complete length of the car connecting headlamps on either side.
Lastly, the rear taillights are updated with a new 3D light pattern and look enticing. The other features have been carried over from the pre-facelift model. This includes:
- 19-inch Alloy Wheels
- Digital LED Lighting
- All-around Body Cladding
- Faux Roof Rails
- LED Light Bar
- Rear Spoiler
2024 EQA Interior Changes
On the inside, there are two notable changes to the overall layout. First, the steering wheel is updated with a new three-spoke design with capacitive touch buttons. Second, the dashboard and door trim pieces have the Mercedes Star pattern that illuminates along with the ambient lights. Again, the updated interior now brings the EQA closer to the bigger and more premium EQs.
2024 EQA Technology Changes
The signature twin-screen layout found on Mercedes-Benz cars is now offered as standard on the EQA. Two 10.25-inch screens now feature the latest MBUX Zero Layer user experience technology. The appearance of the displays can be customised with three display styles: subtle, sporty & classic and three modes: navigation, assistance & service.
Mercedes-Benz has also updated the voice recognition system to enable more functions and better speech recognition. Also, the infotainment system now offers the sound worlds feature, which can be further enhanced by choosing the optional Burmester premium audio system. Smartphones can now connect wirelessly to the vehicle via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other features have been carried over from the earlier model.
2024 EQA Electric Powertrain Updates
As mentioned earlier, the motor and the battery remain the same. The EQA is offered in two battery options: 66.5kWh and 70.5kWh. The larger battery pack is offered exclusively on the EQA 250+ trim, which is not officially retailed in the UAE market. However, to put things in perspective, the EQA 250+ now features a maximum driving range of 560km, up from the previous 520km.
This is done by optimizing the electric powertrain, using new tyres with lower rolling resistance and a new range-maximization mode. The new mode provides suggestions for saving energy such as selecting ECO drive mode, putting the gearbox to D Auto mode, and switching the climate control to the ECO+ mode. The system also suggests the ideal speed to maintain for maximum range.
The new EQA also has the improved Plug & Charge feature. This means it starts charging automatically when you plug in the cable, without needing extra confirmation. The car and the charger communicate directly through the cable, however, the Plug & Charge service needs to be activated in the settings.
In the UAE, Mercedes-Benz currently offers two trims: EQA 250 and EQA 350 4Matic trim for the pre-facelift model. This will most likely continue for the facelifted EQA when launched in the Middle East. Both trims feature a maximum driving range of 421km, which will be upgraded to 459km for the 2024 Model Year electric SUVs.
2024 EQA Electric Safety Updates
- Upgraded sensor technology introduces a new mono-multipurpose camera and backup camera.
- The Driving Assistance package showcases refined function enhancements.
- Active Lane Keeping Assist now offers more comfortable steering intervention in place of ESP.
- Enhanced environmental sensors empower parking systems to provide superior driver support during manoeuvres.
- Integrated into MBUX, these features ensure more intuitive and quicker operation of parking functions.
- The Parking Package, complete with a 360-degree camera, aids the driver when navigating both parallel and perpendicular parking spaces.
The Mercedes-Benz EQA facelift is expected to be launched in the UAE sometime by the end of 2023. Currently, the EQA is priced starting at AED 300,000. The facelifted electric SUV could see a slight price increase when launched.
