The 2024 Hyundai Elantra N has been revealed at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show. The new Elantra N is based on the recently revealed 2024 Hyundai Elantra. The engine and performance remain identical to the current Elantra N. However, several design elements have changed.
Hyundai N Performance Models’ Heritage
South Korean auto giant Hyundai was founded way back in 1967. Over the decades, Hyundai has produced a variety of cars and has come to be known for sensible, practical, and reliable cars around the world. However, Hyundai’s cars were often considered to be boring for an enthusiast. This is where Hyundai’s ‘N’ brand comes into the picture.
The N in Hyundai N is indicative of Namyang and Nurburgring. Namyang is the city in South Korea where Hyundai’s R&D centre for high performance is located. It is the place where in 2012, Hyundai began work on a new high-performance brand to cater to enthusiasts. The Nurburgring track in Germany is where these high-performance vehicles are tested and tuned.
This is how the Hyundai N brand came into existence and the very first N product was the Hyundai i30 N which debuted in 2016. Since then, a few other Hyundai models have received the ‘N’ treatment, giving rise to affordable performance vehicles like the i20 N, Elantra N, Veloster N, and Kona N. Hyundai later also introduced N-Line models which look like high-performance models but don’t really have the high performance of a proper N car.
The Hyundai Elantra N was first introduced in 2021 as a high-performance version of the Elantra sedan. It was based on the standard Hyundai Elantra, but had a more powerful engine and also came with youthful and performance-oriented styling. Earlier this year, Hyundai revealed the new standard Elantra and now, its high-performance version has arrived.
Design & Styling
Hyundai released images of the Avante N, which is what the brand names the Elantra N in the Korean market. Everywhere else, it is called the Elantra N. The standard 2024 Hyundai Elantra boasts sleeker headlamps and overall chic styling. The N version builds upon that styling and kicks it up a notch with the use of multiple colours and other elements. The signature red skirting is found on all sides of the sedan.
The front grille is decked in black, but it now also features body-coloured elements. All badges around the car are finished in black and the Elantra N now rides on new 19-inch wheels. These alloy wheels do look excellent and make the sedan look very sporty indeed. The LED DRLs in the headlamps are connected by a metallic bar above the grille. At the rear, the bumper is now completely black and this is accentuated by the Red-coloured elements.
Interior
Hyundai hasn’t revealed the interior of the 2024 Elantra just yet. However, we do not expect a major difference in the interior layout. The current Hyundai Elantra N already features a rather sporty interior decked in Black. You get sporty bucket seats with red accents and stitching and we expect the same interior to be carried over to the new facelift as well.
Sporty Engine & Performance
The 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that is found under the bonnet of the current Elantra N is expected to be used in the facelifted model too. However, Hyundai hasn’t made any announcements regarding changes to the power output.
In its current guise, the engine pushes out 276hp and 392Nm. The sedan is capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in just 5.8 seconds and it will go on to an electronically-limited top speed of 250km/h. This engine can be paired with either a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The sedan is also equipped with an uprated suspension and braking system to handle the extra performance.
Pricing
Prices for the new Hyundai Elantra N are yet to be announced. However, we do not expect it to cost much more than the current Elantra N. The current Elantra retails at around AED 134,000.
