The 2023 Abaya Rally is all set to take place in Dubai. The 2023 edition of the all-women drive event will be hosted at the Dubai Autodrome on 26 August. The event is a part of the Emirati Women’s Day 2023 celebrations and is returning to Dubai after a successful 2022 event in Abu Dhabi.
Emirati Women’s Day
In 2015, Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Al Ketbi, also known as the Mother of the Nation, introduced Emirati Women’s Day to celebrate and recognise Emirati women’s efforts and accomplishments. Several events are held all across the country to mark the day. The Abaya Rally is one of the biggest and most important events celebrating the women of the UAE.
Abaya Rally
An ‘Abaya’ is a traditional over-garment worn by some women in the Middle East, North Africa, and the Arabian peninsula. The Abaya holds great cultural significance in these areas and hence it made perfect sense to call the first all-women drive in the UAE ‘Abaya Rally’.
The first edition of the Abaya Rally took place in 2020. Back then, it was a part of the UAE’s 49th National Day celebrations, and hence, it was hosted on 02 December. In 2022, the Abaya Rally was hosted in Abu Dhabi as a part of the Emirati Women’s Day celebrations and it was decided to follow the same since then.
However, this time it is back in Dubai, taking place at the Dubai Autodrome. The first edition of the Abaya Rally recorded over 500 participants while the second edition garnered more participants. Now, for the third edition, the participation level is expected to be higher than ever before.
Supercars, sports cars, muscle cars, and powerful SUVs are all expected to be driven by women at the upcoming event. In addition, the Women police officers of the Dubai Police are also expected to turn up with some of the force’s fancy cars. The event is open to all women. However, the names of a few influential women participating in the event have already been released.
Participation in the event is free of cost. However, those who wish to participate in it are required to register for the event. The registration form is available on the Abaya Rally Instagram page. Stay tuned for more updates from the 2023 Abaya Rally.
