Revealed earlier today, the third generation 2021 Lexus IS isn’t all-new but does get a dose of aggressive styling, state-of-the-art technology, enhanced comfort and handling.
Staring with the front end, the new IS gets a spindle grille similar to the one found on the LX 570 albeit slightly smaller. On either side are new headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights.
Now with bolder lines, Lexus has attached new side skirts and larger 18-inch alloys to each corner.
Around the back is a curvier boot along with a thin illuminated strip connecting the restyled taillights as we saw in the teaser video.
But it’s not all about looks. The 2021 Lexus IS is slightly larger in comparison to the 2020 model. It sits 30mm longer and wider and 5mm taller.
Inside, the updates are minimal. You really need to scan the images hard to see what’s new. With that said, the dashboard receives a minor change and now features circular air vents on either side.
On the plus side, the new 10.3-inch infotainment system gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
The IS F moniker has been dropped for 2021, but the IS F Sport returns to the lineup and receives its own subtle styling cues. It gets sportier bumpers, a unique grille, rear spoiler and sports exhaust system.
To further enhance the F Sport experience, Lexus is offering an optional Dynamic Handling Package. With it comes adaptive variable suspension, 19-inch forged BBS rims finished in matte black. Carbon fibre mirror housing and rear spoiler are also part of the package.
On the safety front, the IS benefits from the upgraded Lexus Saftey System+. With it comes an improved camera, Automatic Emergency Braking, All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruiser Control and a Blind Spot Monitor.
More than just a pretty face
Available in three guises, the rear-wheel-drive IS 300 serves as the entry-level model and comes with a 2-litre turbocharged engine rated at 241 horsepower.
The all-wheel-drive variant of the IS 300 comes with a 3.5-litre V6 with 260 hp.
IS 350 vehicles are available with both rear-wheel and all-wheel drivetrains which produce 311 hp.
Rear-wheel-drive models are connected to an eight-speed automatic, whereas the all-wheel-drive models are mated to a six-speed auto.
Besides the styling upgrade, optional package and selection of drivetrains, Lexus has rigorously tested and developed the chassis of the 2021 Lexus IS. While the chassis may not be new, the new IS is the first vehicle to feature the new “Lexus Driving Signature.”
Thanks to the extensive testing, the vehicle has enhanced body rigidity which in turn improves driving performance and ride comfort while reducing noise and vibrations.
When will the 2021 Lexus IS arrive in the UAE?
It is expected to arrive in the UAE and GCC region later this year with pricing announced closer to the date.
Dubicars has new Lexus IS and used Lexus IS for sale in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Ajman.
