2020 BMW M340i surfaces before LA Auto Show

With the LA Motor Show just days away, expect a dozen or so reveals to be shown off early. BMW appears to be one of the first with the 2020 BMW M340i.

While they have not announced the next M3, this latest unveiling should fill the void as it is the most powerful 3-Series that is not an M3 to date.

Start the car and treat yourself to a 3.0-litre straight six fitted with a single twin-scroll turbocharged pushing out 382 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. With numbers like that, the 2020 BMW M340i boasts more power than all but two of the latest M3 models.

All that power is channelled to the rear end (all-four for xDrive equipped models) via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

BMW has yet to release full details of the M340i, but they claim the model launches from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds before hitting an electronically top speed of 249 km/h.

From what’s been released so far, the 2020 M340i has been visually enhanced inside and out including M-specific upholstery finished in Senstac/Alcantara trim, M leather-clad steering wheel with paddle shifters and an anthracite BMW Individual roof liner. On top of that, features found in the current 3-series will also be present throughout the cabin.

Pricing has yet to be announced, but the new performance version of the 3-series line up will launch next summer.
