Teased for some time, Mercedes were initially going to unveil the new 2019 Mercedes GLE at the upcoming Paris Auto Show next month. But they couldn’t keep it locked away for that long, so they’ve decided to show it off early.
One quick glimpse at the latest version and it’s easy to tell the difference between the 2019 Mercedes GLE and the outgoing model as the newest version is fitted with a redesigned grille, new headlights, air intakes and new rims ranging from 18- to 22-inches in diameter.
Around the back, the 2019 GLE has slimmer taillights.
Now riding on a longer wheelbase which has been extended by 80 mm, second-row passengers have an additional 69 mm of legroom and 30 mm of headroom. Cargo space also differs as the GLE can now take up to 825 litres and 2055 litres with the rear seats folded down.
Similar to the new A-Class, the latest GLE will use the new Mercedes-Benz User Experience or MBUX infotainment system consisting of two 12.3-inch display screens as standard.
As for the engine range, reports suggest one engine will be available at launch; an inline-six-cylinder 3.0-litre petrol engine with hybrid and smaller units joining the lineup at a later date.
The 3.0-litre engine is paired with 48-Volt technology and is good for 367 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque with the EQ boost system adding an extra 22 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The 2019 Mercedes GLE will use a 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox.
As for safety, Mercedes has thrown pretty much everything it has into the 2019 GLE as it features a range of driver assistance systems. Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Brake Assist, Active Stop-and-Go Assist, Active Steering Assist and much more.
Lastly, the new GLE can be had with E-Active Body Control. Working in conjunction with the 48-volt system, the new air-suspension system can individually adjust the springs and dampers to reduce body roll and pitching.
The 2019 Mercedes GLE will arrive in select markets early 2019, as for the GCC market, it should arrive mid-2019.
