While we are anticipating the inevitable unveiling of the 2019 Mercedes G-Class, Mercedes have revealed the premium SUV’s interior.
Drivers are treated to an all-new leather wrapped multi-function steering wheel with new touch-sensitive buttons to control various media options. The plush leather gear lever is gone and is now a stalk nestled behind the wheel and in its place is a touch-sensitive COMAND media controller.
Other highlights include redesigned air vents similar to those found in the new CLS, updated climate control buttons, premium analogue clock and there’s no need to put a key in the ignition as the 2019 Mercedes G-Class now features a keyless start button.
Standard models are equipped with traditional analogue gauges with a digital display wedged in between. Customers can have that system replaced with an S-Class inspired 12.3-inch fully digital display to sit next to the identical 12.3-inch infotainment system.
As for options, Mercedes confirmed a 16-speaker Burmester premium sound system lines the entire cabin is on offer along with an Active Multicontour Seat package consisting of different front seats with cooling and massaging properties. A variety of Designo options including Lugano leather in Nut Brown, Macchiato Beige and Black are available as is an Exclusive Interior Plus package that adds Nappa leather covering the centre console, door panels and dashboard.
Along with the enhancements, the 2019 Mercedes G-Class interior grows in size allowing for drivers and passengers to extend their legs, shoulders and elbows a little further. Meanwhile, rear passengers can embrace the additional 150 mm of legroom to kick back and relax.
2019 Mercedes G-Class debut
After it’s grand debut in Detroit early next year, the 2019 Mercedes G-Class will roll into showrooms later next year.
Mercedes has yet to reveal the iconic G-Wagen’s ‘new’ exterior although we’ve caught a glimpse of the boxy SUV before still sporting the traditional box shape along with identical door handles, rear mounted spare tyre and protection strips.
