With the Challenger Demon now out of production and the last one selling for a cool one million USD (along with a Viper), the American manufacturer is focusing their attention on the 2019 Dodge Challenger.
Dodge posted a new teaser video which doesn’t show off much, but if you listen carefully, you can hear a supercharger bellowing in the background. After what appears to be a Challenger drifting on flat ground, the screen fades to black followed by text displaying “Lock RED797_62818.”
While it may seem to be nonsensical, the last six numbers appear to be a date; 6-28-2018 or the 28th of June 2018 (today’s date), leading us to believe an announcement of the 2019 Dodge Challenger is due later today.
The RED797 part is slightly harder to decipher. However, this could be an indication of how much power the upcoming Hellcat version of the 2019 Dodge Challenger will ship with.
While we can’t confirm or deny this is the case, Dodge stated earlier this year that the 2019 Hellcat would be unveiled this summer with a new dual-snorkel bonnet. Now it may sound odd and why would Dodge add two large nostrils to the front end, but they have their reasons.
The redesigned bonnet pays tribute to iconic Mopar designs from some of the most famous muscle cars of yesteryear. Not only that but the American marque have also said the new fixtures are fully functional and provide additional air to keep the engine cool.
Currently, the mighty Challenger Hellcat draws power from a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine rated at an eye-watering 707 horsepower and 881 Nm of torque. The uprated Demon was capable of 808 hp and 840 hp on 100 octane fuel.
With that said, 797 horsepower is feasible, and regarding the RED part, both the Hellcat and Demon come with two keys. One black and one red with the red key unlocking the vehicles true potential.
