After various sightings and a successful test around Germany’s gruelling Nordschleife and participating in a 24-hour race, the 2018 Hyundai i30 N has been revealed camo free and is ready to lock heads with the best.
As part of Hyundai’s performance division, N, the South Korean hot hatch borrows a lick of Performance Blue from its rally counterpart. While it may not appear as “in-your-face” as its rivals, the i30 N receives red brake calipers, N badge on the front grille, enlarged fixed rear spoiler and small aerodynamic trim pieces.
The model sits 4 mm lower compared to the standard i30 with 18-inch alloys bolted to each corner. Swap those out for 19-inch rims, and the model slips down to 8 mm lower.
Inside, Hyundai has fitted bucket seats for the driver and front passenger covered in cloth or a combination of suede and leather. Highlighting the centre console is a 5-inch infotainment system with an 8-inch screen being optionally available.
As with all sport derived models a drive mode is present. With five selectable modes; Eco, Normal, Sport, N Mode and N custom, drivers can slice through each one to find the ideal one for any situation. Other unique features include a variable valve exhaust system, electronically controlled suspension, launch control and electronic slip differential.
Exclusively mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, 2018 Hyundai i30 N models pack quite a punch thanks to a 2-litre turbocharged petrol unit. Rated at 247 horsepower, 0-100 km/h is attained in 6.4 seconds.
An optional performance pack is available; increasing output figures to 271 hp and cutting the models 0-100 km/h time down to 6.2 seconds.
Both versions throw down 353 Nm of torque while its top speed is electronically capped at 250 km/h.
2018 Hyundai i30 N hot hatches are destined to arrive in select markets towards the end of this year with a price tag to be announced closer to launch. As of writing, it is unknown whether or not the hot hatch will be made available to GCC customers.
