Spy photographers in the US have spotted a 2018 Corvette ZR1 sporting an automatic gearbox.
Seeing as General Motors has teamed up with Ford to develop a 10-speed automatic, it’s hard to dismiss Corvette ZR1 models benefitting from the transmission as it has already been utilised in one Chevy model already; the Camaro ZL1
Ford has also started to use the 10-speed box with the Ford F-150, and it will also be introduced to the Mustang family shortly.
With an auto box confirmed, we’re anticipating news about the seven-speed manual gearbox.
It would be an odd move for Chevrolet to discontinue the stick-shift as the 2018 Corvette ZR1 is not just a performance machine, it will be a sweet swansong to the front-engined Corvette before the mid-engined model is introduced for 2019.
2018 Corvette ZR1 powertrain
Sources indicate the upcoming track inspired sports car will be available with two drivetrains. A slightly tuned version of the current supercharged 6.2-litre V8 cranking out over 700 horsepower or a new twin-turbo V8 which is said to be added to the C8 generation Corvette.
Which direction power is sent is unknown. However, seeing as previous generations stuck with rear-wheel drive through thick and thin, we’re expecting that to be the drivetrain of choice once again.
Expect General Motors to make an announcement later this year or early 2018. We’re also waiting for Chevy to release information on their long rumoured hybrid Corvette.
Dubicars.com has new Chevrolet Corvette and used Chevrolet Corvette for sale in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Ajman.
