By now, we know that the Volkswagen-owned sportscar manufacturer has combined the Boxster and Cayman into one model category, 718. We also know there is an S version of both on the way too. What we don’t know is if the 2017 Porsche Boxster GTS is part of the deal.
These latest spy shots point towards the possibility of a hardcore variant is indeed on the way. Previous generation GTS models packed a modest 15 horsepower extra compared to S models. We expect the German brand to pack a little extra seeing as 2017 S versions pack 350 hp generated from a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder motor.
On top of the additional power, the chassis is to be revised along with lowered and stiffer suspension to provide those behind the wheel a sportier ride. Plus there is a perfectly tuned sports exhaust system.
The model pictured doesn’t entirely reflect the final outcome. Although, this version of the 2017 Porsche Boxster GTS sports an exclusive spoiler lip hidden under the front bumper to increase downforce.
In the day of “killing” off the manual gearbox, Porsche is offering 718 models with a manual transmission in base trim along with the dual-clutch PDK box as an optional extra. As for the Cayman GT4 models, they will retain the flat six-cylinder motor powering the rear wheels while mated to a manual box exclusively.
Porsche has yet to confirm or deny if they will be a 2017 Porsche Boxster GTS, when the model is expected to release or what price tag it’ll hold.
