This past week, the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E 63 sped into showrooms in select locations across Europe. Earlier in the year we found out how many horses were locked away in the engine bay, but the German brand has something else to make our knees weak.
It’s not just ludicrous amounts of horsepower that is going to rope buyers in; there’s now a dedicated drift mode. When activated, instead of the engine powering all four wheels, power is sent exclusively to the rear wheels giving drivers the thrill of a lifetime.
Drift mode buttons are no stranger to the limelight, as the crazy hot hatch that is the Ford Focus RS has a dedicated drift button for those who are brave enough to handle the rear end.
The heavy hitting sedan also features Cylinder Deactivation. A system which does exactly what it says, when conserving fuel is required. Cylinder banks two, three, five and eight shut down from the V8 4-litre twin turbocharged petrol motor. With all the cylinders up and running an immense 563bhp spews out the rear end enabling the luxury sedan to hit 100 km/h in a mere 3.5 seconds and a top speed of over 250 km/h. AMG tuned versions are completely bonkers with a 603bhp motor and a 0-100 km/h time of 3.4 seconds.
