As soon as the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT launched solely as a sports car/coupe model, many were upset that a roadster version was not available from the get go. Well those of you who were upset, grab a tissue and wipe those tears away as your dreams are coming true.
Shortly after Mercedes-AMG boss, Tobias Moers confirmed the existence of a convertible version of the Mercedes-Benz SLS successor. With a fabric roof much like it’s older brother, a new boot lid is attached to the rear end with what appears to be another LED brake light mounted higher up.
With the new roof equipped, boot space may be restricted to a lower volume to accommodate said roof, and as with all convertible sports cars weight increase as the undercarriage has to be strengthened. However, AMG confirms that performance won’t be cut short, and the suspension system will be slightly tuned.
An exact launch date is not set in stone as all we know is that it’s due out in 2017. No price has been mentioned either. If a hardtop is the ideal sports car for you, we’ve got new Mercedes-Benz AMG GT and used Mercedes-Benz AMG GT for sale in Dubai, Abu Dhabi.
And with Mercedes launching a hardcore version of the sports car, could the roof be cut off that as well? Who knows, we’ll have to wait and see as it’s a known fact that the AMG GT family is set to expand over the next few years, including a Black Series model!
AMG GT Roadster models will retain the 4.0-litre BiTurbo V8 petrol engine powering the rear wheels with an output of 456 to 503 horsepower depending on what trim.
