2017 Hyundai Ioniq hits GCC markets this year

Revealed earlier this year, Hyundai’s Prius rival will launch in the region by the end of the year.

Two versions of the Ioniq are ready to hit the streets of the Emirates. One is a 1.6-litre petrol four-cylinder petrol paired with a 32 kW electric motor generating a combined 139 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque respectively.

The other model is to be driven by a fully electric drivetrain. Powered by a 28 kWh battery, the Ioniq can travel 250 km on a single charge. 118 horsepower is generated with 295 Nm, which is slightly less than the 2016 Toyota Prius.

Charging the vehicle is as simple as plugging in a TV or computer. Just grab the charging cord and plug it into any standard socket. Hyundai has also confirmed if that method is too slow, a fast charger will be made available that can charge the vehicle to 80% in just 20 mins.

Nine exterior colours are offered including the white lick of paint you see in the pictures and can be paired with a choice of three interior options. Inside, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a 7-inch infotainment system provide entertainment while various safety features such as Autonomous Emergency Brake, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Detection and seven airbags keep all those inside safe.

2017 Hyundai Ioniq models are set to roll out later this year in the UAE and surrounding regions with an unannounced price.

We don’t have any Ioniq models for sale but we do have new Hyundai and used Hyundai for sale in Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.

  1. As we come to the end of the year there is still no word on the release of the Hyundai Ioniq despite the several confirmations by upper management in Hyundai. I tried the Sheikh Zayed road and Diera showroom and most had no idea what the model was and one salesman said maybe in 2018!? Have Hyundai gone back on their statements? It would be a shame since I know many friends looking for a cleaner option these days.

    • We’ve checked with Hyundai, they either don’t have news about its release date in the UAE or they won’t tell. But the Hyundai Ioniq is already released last September/October in European markets like Holland, Sweden and UK. We’ll keep everyone updated about its release in Dubai.
