BMW 5-Series 2017 models may have been spotted traversing the city streets drenched in heavy camo, but no release date has been set aside for the mid-level sedan. Recent reports suggest it could be right around the corner.
In just a few weeks time, the next generation of 5-series will allegedly launch online with an unknown release date and price tag. After that, we’ll get to view the sedan in the flesh at next year’s Detroit Motor Show.
Utilising high-strength steel and aluminium, 2017 5-Series models weigh in as much as 80 kilos lighter than the previous generation. Add carbon fibre to the mix and an extra 20 kilos is removed from the figure totalling 100 kilos lighter.
7-Series models will loan many of it’s interior and exterior features to the 5-Series. These include gesture control, laser headlights and most exciting of all autonomous functions at set speeds. The latter of the three is said to be of a higher calibre than its older sibling.
As many features are to be borrowed from the BMW 7-Series, expect a variety of engines to be passed through including the turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol power unit along with 3.0-litre six cylinder with both petrol and diesel intakes and you can expect the 4.4-litre V8 motor to return to power the 750Li. Plug-in hybrid drivetrains are expected and as for M5 models, they too will come back with twin-turbo power with increased power.
Not too long ago, speculation arose that the new 5-Series would roll out in production trim at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. However, the world debut of the BMW X2 will take place instead.
