Audi debuted the latest iteration of the R8 Spyder earlier in the year at the New York Auto Show, now four months later pre-orders are finally starting. Well at least in Europe they are and they start today (July, 14, 2016).
In Germany, prices start at €179,000 (Approx. AED 729,640) with a host of features both optional and standard including, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Audi Virtual Cockpit, Bang & Olufsen sound system and LED lights coupled with 20-inch rims on each corner.
Audi decided to drop the V8 engine from the lineup and now only offers a 5.2-litre V10 petrol engine which also power the Lamborghini Huracan. Producing 532 horsepower and 540 Nm of torque, 0-100 is achieved in 3.6 seconds and maxes out a 318 km/h! Unlike many of its rival’s excluding the previously mentioned one, Audi has not added turbochargers for additional induction.
2017 R8 Spyder’s need just 20 seconds to operate the roof either up or down at speeds of up to 50 km/h. And even though, it’s a convertible, Audi managed to shave 110 kilos off the total weight figure. Not only that, they have increased torsional rigidity by up 50 percent.
When R8 Spyder’s will make their way officially to the GCC region is unknown as of writing as is the price. However if you really need to secure your place in line, you could always order one overseas and import it over when it’s built.
