Audi were not going to rest easy until the RS4 was sitting pretty at the top of the pyramid. Here we have a stunning second generation RS4 in the excellent choice of Misano Red with the black edition pack which comes with RS 20” wheels and interior to match. Along with this wonderful spec, the previous owner has recently changed front suspension bushes, new discs and pads all round & 2 new Michelin Pilot Sport tyres.
Under the hood of this beast comes a naturally aspirated V8. A peek reveals an engine that would not look out of place in a Ferrari, red cam covers and a carbon-fibre-encrusted intake manifold are pure eye candy, but this V8 is no poseur; it displays the same willingness to spin and quick throttle response as do the engines from Maranello. Having bucked the forced-induction trend, this naturally aspirated V8 is graced with linear power delivery, with no peaks or hiccups, and it surges steadily until the limiter cuts in. It is a race-worthy engine. With the BMW M3 dropping its epic V8 in favour of a force-fed Straight 6, the RS4 just might be the best V8-powered performance car around just now.
The 4.2-litre V8 makes 444bhp and 430NM of torque. That is 20 more hp than the similar V8 in the Lamborghini-based R8. The RS4’s power is driven through a seven-speed dual-clutch S Tronic automatic gearbox. Audi has sped up the dual-clutch’s shift times for by reworking the transmission’s hydraulics. Shifts are banged off very quickly! Like all modern Audis, the RS4’s handling is safe and predictable. As you approach its limit, the RS4 inspires confidence, not fear.
At the back, the restyled bumper is more pronounced and features high-gloss black diffuser insert with the black edition honeycomb grille. The RS4 badge on the tailgate tell those behind this is no ordinary car. Also, the black edition pack adds black side skirts, black mirrors, black window surround and black piano wood interior.
