The all-new Alfa Romeo Tonale Ti is here and ready to take on the might of Audi’s entry level Q3, BMW’s X1 & Mercedes’ GLA. We’ve seen previously how Alfa Romeo managed to disrupt the premium 4 door saloon segment beating all of its competitors with the Giula. Now you can see how they’ve done it again in the premium small/medium compact SUV segment by producing a prettier, more aggressive product, with better performance and a longer warranty than the rest of its competitors. It oozes passion and character with Alfa motifs, the 19’’ teledial QV style wheels, elegant scudetto shield as the centre piece of the grill and the triple front signature headlights, descended from the classic Alfa SZ sports car tying it all together.
Powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 268bhp & 400Nm of torque - every single one is linked up to an 9-speed automatic gearbox as standard and that is backed up with sharp handling, accurate steering, and performance that's eager to break speed limits & will power you from 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds.
Alfa has created a driver-centric cabin inspired by its racing history with all the controls within easy reach. Grabbing the steering wheel and hitting the start button in the lower left quadrant with a thumb adds a distinct racing flair that’s borrowed directly from Ferrari in its styling. The brand's familiar DNA selector switch makes changing the Tonale's dynamics easy. Controls for all three drive modes, suspension tuning, and traction control are mounted on the dash just to the right of the driver's knee so they can be changed without digging.
This region see’s the entry level Tonale coming as the Ti which is already loaded with tech, now with Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and wireless phone charging as standard. We love the text confirmation on the centre screen to show charging was initiated, no need to hunt for an LED somewhere. Blind spot mirrors, a surround-view camera system and electric tailgate all add to the premium feel.
The new Tonale is also the first of Alfa Romeo's offerings to use the Uconnect 5 interface that's making its rounds through the Stellantis brands: here it's given the Alfa Romeo treatment in all its graphics. The 12.3-inch cluster houses completely digital gauges with retro styling from Alfas of the 1960s and 1970s, with a 10.3-inch screen mounted in the centre dash that’s similar toto what you see in the Maserati MC20.
