Nissan Patrol expert review

By Punith Bharadwaj Published August 2026 Rating by expert: 4.8/5

Nissan Patrol Review

The Nissan Patrol is one of the most recognised SUVs in the UAE. The latest generation keeps the model’s strong road presence and desert capability while adding more comfort, technology and refinement.

Buyers can choose between naturally aspirated and twin-turbocharged V6 engines, as well as several equipment grades. The range also includes the adventure-focused Patrol PRO-4X and the high-performance Patrol NISMO.

Design & Styling

The new Nissan Patrol retains its upright and imposing proportions but introduces a cleaner and more modern design. A large V-Motion grille dominates the front, framed by signature Double C-Shape LED headlights. Strong shoulder lines, squared wheel arches and an almost vertical rear design help preserve the Patrol’s traditional SUV character.

Depending on the grade, wheel sizes range from 18 to 22 inches. Selected versions also offer dual-tone paint, a panoramic sunroof, distinctive puddle lamps and different city or off-road bumpers. The overall appearance is premium enough for Dubai’s city roads while remaining rugged enough for desert trips.

Engine & Performance

The Nissan Patrol is available with two main petrol engines. The 3.8-litre naturally aspirated V6 produces 316hp and 386Nm of torque. It offers smooth, predictable performance for daily driving, long-distance touring, and moderate off-road use.

Higher grades receive a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 producing 425hp and 700Nm. The strong torque output makes this engine better suited to quick overtaking, dune driving and carrying a full load of passengers. Both engines use a nine-speed automatic transmission, while paddle shifters are available on selected grades.

Fuel Efficiency

Fuel economy is unlikely to be the main reason for choosing a Nissan Patrol. Its large body, four-wheel-drive system and powerful petrol engines mean fuel consumption will remain relatively high, particularly during city driving or desert use.

The nine-speed automatic transmission helps keep engine speeds lower during motorway journeys, while Eco mode adjusts the throttle response and gear changes to support more economical driving. Every version comes with a 97-litre fuel tank, providing a useful range for long UAE road trips. Actual efficiency will vary depending on the engine, traffic, driving style, vehicle load, and terrain.

Interior & Features

The Patrol’s cabin combines traditional luxury with modern digital technology. Depending on the grade, the dashboard features twin 12.3-inch or twin 14.3-inch screens. The larger setup creates a combined 28.6-inch Monolith Display.

Available features include Google built-in, wireless charging, a head-up display, a 12-speaker Klipsch audio system and 12.8-inch rear entertainment screens. Higher grades add quilted leather seats, heating and ventilation, massage functions, multicolour ambient lighting and biometric cooling. This cooling system uses infrared sensors to detect passenger body temperature and direct additional cool air towards occupied seats.

Space & Practicality

The standard Nissan Patrol measures 5,350mm long, 2,030mm wide without mirrors and between 1,945mm and 1,955mm tall. Its wheelbase measures 3,075mm, helping provide generous cabin space across three rows. Seating is available for up to eight occupants.

The second row uses a pitch-and-slide design to improve third-row access. Higher grades offer electrically folding third-row seats that can be controlled through the infotainment screen. The flat-folding rear seats also make it easier to carry larger items. Cabin practicality is supported by several charging ports, a cooling box, and a combined 9 litres of storage in the glovebox and centre console.

Off-Road Capability

The Nissan Patrol remains a capable four-wheel-drive SUV. Entry versions include an off-road front bumper and a locking rear differential, while higher grades introduce electronically controlled dampers and adaptive air suspension.

Drivers can select Rock, Sand, Mud, Standard, Eco and Sport modes according to the terrain. When off-road mode is activated, the available air suspension raises the vehicle to improve ground clearance. The Invisible Hood View displays the area directly beneath the front of the Patrol, making it easier to see crests, rocks and obstacles. A 3D Around View Monitor provides additional assistance on narrow trails and in parking areas.

Nissan Patrol PRO-4X

The Patrol PRO-4X is designed for buyers who regularly explore dunes, wadis and rocky trails. It uses the 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 with 425hp and 700Nm, paired with the nine-speed automatic transmission.

Its off-road upgrades include adaptive air suspension, 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tyres, a front skid plate, additional underbody protection and visible front tow hooks. Black wheel arch extensions, dark exterior trim, and red accents distinguish it from the regular Patrol.

Inside, the PRO-4X receives quilted leather-appointed seats with embroidered branding. It also includes the 3D Around View Monitor and Invisible Hood View, combining traditional mechanical capability with useful off-road camera technology.

Nissan Patrol NISMO

The Nissan Patrol NISMO is the most powerful and road-focused version in the range. Its specially tuned 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 produces 495hp in Sport mode and 700Nm of torque. A NISMO-tuned exhaust gives the engine a stronger and more distinctive sound.

Performance upgrades include NISMO-tuned electronic power steering, electronically controlled dampers, adaptive air suspension and high-grip tyres. The 22-inch forged alloy wheels, developed with RAYS, are lighter than conventional wheels, improving response.

The exterior gains a unique grille, aerodynamic bumpers, spoilers, diffusers and red detailing. Inside, leather- and suede-like materials, red seatbelts, sports seats, and NISMO branding create a more focused atmosphere without sacrificing the Patrol’s comfort and practicality.

Safety & Driver Assistance

Available safety technology includes seven airbags, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection and Rear Automatic Emergency Braking. Blind Spot Intervention, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Lane Departure Prevention are offered on higher grades.

ProPILOT can assist with steering, acceleration and braking while helping the vehicle remain centred in its lane. The Frameless Smart Rear View Mirror uses a rear-mounted camera to provide a clearer view when passengers or luggage obstruct the conventional mirror. Equipment availability varies by grade, with the PRO-4X receiving a slightly different assistance package than the luxury-focused Patrol versions.

Verdict

The Nissan Patrol continues to suit UAE buyers who need a spacious family SUV with strong road presence, genuine desert capability and a comfortable cabin. The 3.8-litre V6 provides a more straightforward entry point, while the 3.5-litre twin-turbo engine delivers considerably stronger performance.

The PRO-4X is the best choice for frequent off-road driving, thanks to its all-terrain tyres, protection equipment and improved approach angles. The NISMO targets drivers who want sharper handling, distinctive styling and the most powerful Patrol engine. Across the range, the Patrol remains a highly capable all-rounder for city driving, long journeys and weekend adventures.
