American car manufacturers have been using the Platinum badge across their line-up for some time. Re-occurring on the Cadillac Escalade, Chrysler 300 and many others, the name slowly made its way east and stuck around on a set number of models in Japan, i.e., Nissan Patrol Platinum. Now the nameplate is heading West again and attaching itself to the Porsche Cayenne.
Standard features of the platinum include adaptive xenon headlights paired with Porsche’s very own Dynamic Lighting System or PDLS for short, park assist with camera, 20-inch rims on each corner, power steering plus system and so much more.
Inside, eight-way electric seats are mandatory with alcantra inserts surrounded by leather; stainless steel plaques line the footwells engraved with platinum and that’s about it for additions inside the cabin. Navigation, Bluetooth pairing, media inputs, sunroof and everything else found in Cayenne models are bundled in.
Those who quite fancy a Cayenne with a new trim level can choose between two standard colours: Black or white. Or if you pay a little extra, your choice expands to Rhodium Silver, Carrera White, Purpurite, Jet Black and more metallic paints to coat the exterior. No platinum badges appear anywhere on the vehicle’s exterior.
The new trim level is only available on basic Cayenne’s for the time being. There are no engine upgrades; customers will have to stick with the 3.6-litre V6 petrol motor pumping out 296 horsepower and send it all to all four wheels. Hybrid Cayenne S models can also bear the trim, again with no modifications to its V6 3-litre 328 horsepower motor.
Porsche Cayenne Platinum models are set to launch later this year with an unconfirmed price point.
