No supercharger or convertible GT86 or BRZ inbound

Were you holding out on buying yourself a Toyota GT86 or Subaru BRZ because you were anticipating a supercharged or convertible model, well we hate to break it to you like this, however, neither of these are joining the lineup.

Subaru has personally confirmed this amidst rumours floating around last year, that the Japanese brand would add the STi brand to the BRZ’s back bumper implying a supercharger was nestled underneath the bonnet.

Around the same time, Subaru was caught testing a unique version of the boxer engine using a BRZ shell leading to speculation of powerful enhancements. Additionally, this rogue model was said to pack two electric motors.

Last year, both the GT86 and BRZ received a mid-cycle refresh bringing a dash of aggression to the front end, new wheel designs and revised rear lights. The engine also receives a small kick of five horsepower bringing the total up to 205 hp. Both the automatic and manual gearbox remain with the latter receiving minor updates.

2017 Toyota GT86 models are already on sale in the United States for a retail price of $27,120 or AED 99,610 and should arrive in the Middle East in the next coming months.

Even though superchargers aren’t on the table, there are plenty of third party companies that can hook you up with your wildest GT86 or BRZ dreams including a 4.5-litre V8 Ferrari motor powering the rear wheels.
