Hyundai puts the Genesis Coupe to rest

Much like Toyota, Honda and Nissan have, Hyundai has their very own luxury division that was once part of the initial lineup. Since its inception, they have pushed the brand to be its own separate unit.

As it has successfully done that, Hyundai dropped a model or two during the process, and that, unfortunately, includes the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. This comes at the same time as the brand are set to launch their flagship sedan later this year with a competitive price compared to rivals.

Not to worry, as the South Korean brand has revealed that in 2020, fans can expect a replacement for the two-door model which is said to be packed with new and premium features. By the same time, Hyundai would expand their Genesis lineup to include two SUV’s, three sedans and the coupe.

No price bracket for the upcoming model has been revealed.

Current models in 2016 trim are exclusively powered by a 3.8-litre V6 petrol engine pumping out around 348 horsepower. Mated to either an automatic or manual transmission, power is channelled to the rear wheels. With the two door model taking a brief hiatus, that leaves rivals to take in a few extra sales; Toyota GT86, Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro and others.

With the Genesis Coupe off the menu, Hyundai doesn’t have a coupe within its lineup unless you consider the Hyundai Veloster a coupe.
